Albany, NY Carousel Restoration Part 1
Albany Carousel July 1, 2000
Brass Ring has been contracted to restore New York State Museum's 1900 Dare Carousel. The carousel will be restored to the original colors and stenciling. Brass Ring is very fortunate to have antique paint specialist Rosa Ragan on the project. Under all of the layers of park paint that have been added over the years, Rosa discovered trace amounts of the original paint and stenciling (see photos).
The animals are in as-to-be-expected shape with lots of nails, screws and steel plates added over the years. The wood after over 100 years of service has the normal amount of delamination and wood rot. Brass Ring will be accumulating the added metal parts as the animals are restored. It will be interesting to see all the nails, screws and plates that were added to each horse over the years.
